What is the concept of authenticity in Transformation..?

We have seen several BBBEE ownership transactions in the SA asset management industry over the years.

Perhaps an example to reference is the Taquanta Asset Management (AUM – R217 Billion) and Ngwedi Investment Managers (AUM – R7 Billion) merger which took place earlier in 2021. In this merger the talented and experienced black investment professionals of Ngwedi were absorbed into Taquanta – into positions at board and senior management.

Taquanta, a majority black owned business prior to this transaction, were seen as a business which was struggling to shake off the perception of not being an authentically transformed business especially at the higher levels of the operations of the business.

In our view, this transaction has been a net positive for Taquanta and assists them in shaking off that perception and possibly makes them a contender in the asset management industry as an authentically transformed business.
