According to Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA) President Geraldine Fowler the 2024 IRFA Conference to be held in Cape Town in October will be “a convergence of visionaries, strategists, and change-makers committed to shaping the future of retirement across the African continent.”

The 2024 conference aims to forge a united front in the African retirement sector, bringing together private sector service providers, retirement funds, regulators, educators and government officials. The focus will be on creating synergistic and cohesive strategies which will enhance retirement outcomes and thereby contribute to the economic and social well-being of the continent.

In addition the conference will provide a review of international developments/practices and how these are aligned with South African trends.  Fowler says that the conference theme encapsulates the spirit of collaboration and collective intelligence which can and will drive innovative solutions for the complex challenges in the retirement sector.

“IRFA’s mission has always been to enhance retirement outcomes, bolster economic prosperity, and elevate social well-being. The theme “Better Together” encapsulates our resolve—a testament to the power of synergy. Advocacy, knowledge dissemination, and education define our purpose. With each conference, we build upon our legacy, weaving a tapestry of innovation and resilience. The 2024 conference is no exception—it will celebrate collaboration across all areas of the retirement sector, public and private, in South Africa and north of our borders, laying the groundwork for robust, sustainable retirement systems.”

The conference is scheduled to be held from the 6th to the 8th of October at the Cape Town International Convention centre and the speaker line-up is impressive.

Recognising the importance of continuous learning and development, the conference outcomes will offer tailored training sessions, workshops, and seminars and a variety of interactive formats will be used, including panel discussions, roundtables, and breakaway sessions to ensure a dynamic and engaging conference experience.

The industry body hopes to welcome in excess of 1000 delegates from South Africa and north of our borders for an engaging and capacity building experience.
