This platform will raise awareness of the multitude of skilled asset managers who operate within South Africa, many of them at the fringes, and the choice investors have.
This first of its kind conference highlighted the depth of talent and skill which resides in many of the emerging asset managers in South Africa. Motswedi showcased five diverse asset managers out of a universe of approximately fifty transformed asset managers. The presenting managers were Benguela Global Fund Managers, Ngwedi Investment Managers, LimaMbeu Investment Managers, Mianzo Asset Management and Differential Capital.
Each manager was given twenty-two minutes to succinctly articulate an investment idea which they believe differentiates them. Directed by the master of ceremonies, Mark Davids of Motswedi Emerging Manager Strategists, the five asset managers skilfully articulated their presentations and dazzled the audience.
The audience consisted of asset owners and asset allocators from the Institutional retirement fund industry and representatives from the Retail industry. The conference ended with a powerful panel discussion moderated by asset management industry specialist Muitheri Wahome. Muitheri managed the delicate task of extracting powerful insights from the panelists on their views of the emerging asset management universe and the importance of transformation.
The high powered panel had representation from the Public Investment Corporation (PIC), the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and from an Independent asset management specialist.
