With almost half of South Africans deemed financially illiterate, the need for accessible financial education has never been more critical. To address this, RCS has partnered with Massmart to launch the Credit Gateway Tool for its customers, a resource designed to empower South Africans by providing free access to essential financial wellbeing resources. The Game mystore card, Makro Credit and Builders Store Credit customers will all have access to this tool.

Powered by Welltec Group, this innovative tool gives consumers the ability to access their credit reports and scores at no cost, offering valuable insights into their financial standing. Beyond that, it provides personalised tips on budgeting and a range of financial support services, allowing consumers to take control of their finances and work towards greater financial wellness.

To further support consumers along this journey, Glenda Eagar, Product and Marketing Executive at RCS, shares three practical tips for achieving financial wellness:

1. Review your monthly budget

As the new year begins, it’s the perfect time to reflect on your financial habits from the past year and to set fresh goals for the months ahead. Ask yourself:

  • Has my income changed?
  • Am I living within my means?
  • How was my money spent?
  • Have I saved regularly?

This reflection will help you make informed decisions, whether it’s cutting unnecessary expenses, automating savings, or adjusting your financial goals.

2. Manage your debt

If you have multiple credit accounts, be sure to understand all associated charges and avoid penalties by making your payments on time.

3. Don’t forget to keep track of your credit score

As South Africans continue to face financial challenges, resources like the Credit Gateway tool   play a valuable role in empowering consumers to manage their finances effectively. Through this initiative, RCS and Massmart are committed to promoting financial literacy and equipping individuals with the knowledge they need to boost their financial wellness.

“Massmart together with RCS are committed to supporting our customers’ financial well-being,” said Riaan Nieuwoudt, Executive of Services and Membership at Massmart. “By providing easy access to essential resources such as credit reports and personalised financial guidance, we’re equipping consumers with the knowledge they need to make better financial decisions.”

For more information and to start your journey to boost your financial wellness, access the Credit Gateway tool or visit the RCS, Game, Builders, or Makro websites.
