Ninety One boosts trading leadership team with two promotions
26 Oct, 2023

Cathy Gibson, Ninety One’s Global Head of Trading at Ninety One

Ninety One is pleased to announce two key changes in the leadership structure of the company’s trading function.

Former Head of Trading Africa, Doug Blatch, has been promoted to Deputy Global Head of Trading, supporting Cathy Gibson, Ninety One’s Global Head of Trading.

Yanela Songca, who has a wealth of experience in local markets and cross-asset capabilities, has been promoted to Head of Trading South Africa.

Commenting on their promotions, Gibson said. “I wish to congratulate both Doug and Yanela on their new roles. Doug, who has more than 25 years on the desk, will bolster the global trading function and focus on building out our capabilities in transaction cost analysis and trade management information.”

According to Gibson, Songca, who joined Ninety One 9 years ago through the firm’s graduate recruitment programme, represents the emerging leadership in the business and will be a key part of future proofing the trading function in the region. “Throughout his career Yanela has garnered cross-asset capabilities, having commenced his career on the equity desk before transitioning to the fixed income desk. This is no small achievement given the structural differences between the asset types.”
