Jeanette Marais, Deputy CEO of Momentum Metropolitan and CEO of Momentum Investments, believes a young aspiring investment management professional needs to be prepared to roll up their sleeves and showcase their willingness to learn. “Your qualification will get you a foot in the door, but your grit, perseverance, stamina, and your ability to build relationships are what will set you apart”.
According to recent research *, Only 15% (84 women) of the JSE executive population is female (including CEOs and CFOs). This is slightly improved from last year, where 13% of the overall JSE executive population was female. Female representation at CEO and CFO level is 8% (22 women) and 22% (56 women) respectively. Jeanette noted that, as a business leader within the investment management industry, she often come across young professionals seeking advice on how to navigate a career for themselves. We are faced with a very dire unemployment rate and bleak situation in our country as many of our aspiring graduates are losing hope about their future.
As part of She Owns Her Success (#SheOwnsHerSuccess), Momentum is a proud supporter of women’s unstoppable success by providing the financial advice, products, tools, and platforms to encourage women to own their achievements and shatter barriers they encounter on their journey. Women explain and define success from their current lived experience. Their definition of success is shaped and firmly rooted in the history of women, but also in the current traditional stereotypical gender roles, patriarchal systems, beliefs and inequality they experience daily.
